Susan Wall, March 2010 Employee of the Month

She did not like math as a child, but now loves working with numbers.  Staff Specialist Susan Wall of Fiscal Services – our March 2010 Employee of the Month — is one of our unsung heroes.  She keeps track of mileage, travel, and watches the budget for us, processing PO’s and moving money around.  She is also highly valued as a Banner specialist – a critical position, indeed.  When asked, she said that helping people solve problems and being able to see the bigger picture on our campus as it relates to the District are the FUN parts of her job.  That is a good thing, because a lot of people on our campus appreciate her help and perspective on a regular basis.

Full of energy and enthusiasm, Susan really appreciates the people she works with and her boss, Louise Comer.  She began her full-time position just 3 years ago, having spent the previous 23 years part-time at Coastline and GWC – and was even recognized as a 2003 GWC Employee of the Month during those years.  A Cal State Fullerton graduate with a BA in Finance, she extends her involvement in the life of the campus by serving on the Planning and Budget Committee, Preview Day and Chicano/Latino Day.

A colleague offered this praise:  “Susan Wall of Fiscal Services is one of the most professional and helpful employees that I have ever come in contact in my 26 years at both Golden West College and the Coast Community College District. Susan works quietly in the background of the campus support services group that virtually remains unseen and unheard of. She is unfailingly professional and efficiently helps our campus to run smoothly. She is ever ready with assistance whenever she is needed, especially when students come to receive their scholarship or financial aid payments. She is truly an asset to our campus and our District. Thank you Susan for the kindness you have always shown staff and students. You are truly a gem and will never know how much you are truly appreciated!”

In her off campus life, Susan enjoys walking her dachshund, flower gardening and travelling with her husband.  Certificated to teach literacy, she sees herself involved in that in her future.

Definitely a valuable asset for our campus, Susan has earned her spot on the marquee.  Congratulations to you and thank you for all you do!
