Plein Air Paintings Exhibit at GWC Gallery

On Thursday, February 9, art enthusiasts attended the opening of Plein Air Painting at the Golden West College Fine Arts Gallery. Guests were impressed with paintings by Daniel Aldana, Ken Auster, Jacobus Baas, Toni Danchik, Rick Delanty, John Eagle, Dan Graziano, Gretha Lindwood, Alan Nowell,  Jeff Sewell, W. Jason Situ,  and Rachel Uchizono.

Plein air is a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, which literally means ‘in the open air’. It’s a familiar concept today, but in the late 1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary.

The GWC Art Gallery provides an atmosphere that promotes and encourages learning and personal development for our students as well as the community. The Art faculty considers the gallery to be a co-curricular educational program and is assigning projects linked to the gallery exhibit.
