GWC Welcomes New Vice President

Golden West College Welcomes Dr. Fabienne McPhail Naples as our new Vice President of Student Success

Dr. Fabienne McPhail Naples was appointed GWC’s new Vice President of Student Success on June 21. 2011. She comes to us from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she served as the Associate Vice President of Student Success Services. Her contract at GWC started on July 1, 2011.

Naples has acquired a unique blend of academic instruction and student service leadership through her various roles over the past 14 years, including Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools and Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at UCLA; Dean of Student Learning in Social Sciences at Moorpark College; Project Manager, Community Services Learning Program at Santa Monica College; Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Women’s Center at Stanford University; and Graduate Residence Dean at Stanford University.  “My life has been dedicated to students first and how I may best serve them as an educator and administrator,” she states.

At University of Nevada, Reno she had the leading role in an effort involving more than 30 faculty and 2,000 students to provide supplemental instruction that had a positive, measurable impact by improving both retention and success rates for underprepared students. At Santa Monica, she created the Service Learning Project linking students with more than 100 community-based agencies. At Moorpark College, she was Dean of Student Learning, where she worked in an integrated administrative model that blended student services and instruction – her particular assignment included Student Counseling services and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

When asked about this new position at Golden West College, Dr. Naples stated, “I have a strong commitment to helping others accomplish their goals by using the guiding principles of shared governance, encouraging team building and creating cross-functional teams. I am committed to building bridges between K-12, community college, higher education and employers to benefit future generations.”

Naples earned her doctorate from UCLA in Educational Leadership, her master’s degree in History and Literature from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in Journalism and Public Relations.

Dr. Naples is married to Robert Naples. She is the proud mother of five children and grandmother to three boys.  She enjoys Bikram Yoga, Creole cooking and popular culture.  We welcome Faye to our Golden West College family.
