GWC Hosts SQL Saturday

On Saturday, April 24, Golden West College hosted SQL Saturday, a one day SQL Server training event. The event was attended by 160 professionals and students from all over Southern California and sponsors came from points as far away as Boston.

SQL Server is Database Management System developed and marketed by Microsoft. Thousands of computer professionals use SQL Server for their systems all over the world and ongoing education is of vital importance. The seminars are presented by experienced professionals in the field and attended by students and working professionals interested in learning more about the software.

Herb Cohen, GWC Computer Science instructor agreed to host the event after being asked to do so by former student, Marlon Ribunal. Golden West provided four classrooms for the seminars, which were open at no cost to all who were interested (including GWC students). Event sponsors underwrote the costs of food and raffle prizes, which included an iPod signed by Steve Wozniak (Woz) and an iPad!  Numerous books and several gift certificates were also given out.

Participants were overwhelmingly complimentary about the ease of access to the school, the quality of surroundings, the facilities and also the reliability and speed of both the wired and wireless networks for
Internet access which operated flawlessly. The GWC staff was invaluable in making the event a success.
