Golden West College Student Awarded at AIFD Design Competition

Golden West College Floral Design student, Laura Murphy,won honors in the American Institute of Floral Designers’ (AIFD) 2013 Student Floral Design Competition that was held as part of AIFD’s 2013 National Symposium held in Las Vegas June 28 – July 2.

The competition consists of five categories: sympathy arrangement for an infant, wedding bouquet, corsage and boutonnière for a prom and an arrangement for art gallery grand opening. Murphy took home the third place award in the Arrangement category and also tied for the winner of the People’s Choice Award which is voted on by Symposium attendees.

Student AIFD (SAIFD) maintains chapters at 15 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. SAIFD Chapters not only compete in the Annual Student Design Competition during AIFD’s National Symposium but also host Artist in Residence Programs throughout the year. Chapter members also receive sponsorships to attend the National Symposium from AIFD members and Industry Partners through the AIFD Foundation.
