Kicking off the new school year, Golden West College hosted their First Annual Rustler Welcome Day on August 24th for new incoming students. Over 300 first-year students were warmly welcomed in the outdoor amphitheater by GWC president Wes Bryan along with Chad Bowman, Director of the Accessibility Center for Education, and Ben Olague, Outreach Program Specialist.

Students were then treated to tours throughout the campus by members of ASGWC, and sat in on workshops to help prepare them for the school year. “The Buzz on Student Life,” “Financial Aid Survival Guide”, and “Finding the Perfect Career,” were a few of the all highly-attended workshops.

First-year GWC student Julian Martinez was big winner for the day, walking away with the grand prize laptop, donated by the GWC Foundation. As he claimed his prize, a smiling Martinez exclaimed, “I REALLY needed this!” Dean of Counseling Robyn Brammer, along with Nikki Phan, Counseling Staff Assistant coordinated the very successful first-time event.

“We are building a stronger climate of prepared and connected students, and I could not be more proud to be a Rustler,” Brammer says.
