GWC Art Gallery Re-opens with an African Gala

Darryll Ebert, GWC Art Professor and Gallery Curator

The grand re-opening of the Golden West College Art Gallery on Thursday, March 11 was a huge success. An African Gala, which included the African Cultural Study Group of Long Beach, featured authentic drummers and dancers who entertained our opening night guests for nearly an hour. Approximately 150 people attended the event and rave reviews were heard throughout the night. The show consists of pieces on loan from K.S. Brothers African Imports, Los Angeles and Village Treasures, Long Beach. A vast amount of masks as well as fertility figures, drums, small bronze images and shields, some over a century old, will be on exhibit until April 9th.

The GWC Art Gallery provides an atmosphere that promotes and encourages learning and personal development for our students as well as the community. The Art faculty considers the gallery to be a co-curricular educational program and is assigning projects linked to the gallery exhibit.

Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 10- 2 pm.
