On Wednesday, April 28, Golden West College Student Health Services hosted its first Health Fair in the Central Quad. Rob Bachmann, Associate Dean, Student Health Services, organized the event to promote health and showcase student support services at GWC and in the community. The Fair was open to the public and included information booths, pizza, and live entertainment.
“About 75% of the students I talk to don’t know what the Student Health Center has to offer,” Rob explained. “This event is intended to increase students’ awareness of our services, and other health services in the community.”
Nursing student demonstrating CPR
Students from the GWC School of Nursing participated with several booths. They provided information about emergency preparedness, facts about alcohol, smoking and pregnancy, birth control, and gave CPR demonstrations. GWC Community Services promoted its Holistic Massage & Bodyworks Certificate program by offering free chair massages. Other vendors included South Coast Athletic Club, Orange County Public Health Care Agency, Vitality Health & Wellness, FitnessWorkx, and CSP-Community Services Programs.
Giancarlo Floridia rocked the Quad
Entertainment was provided by GWC Music student Giancarlo Floridia and friends. Gian has entertained the campus at several events and participated in this year’s “Over the Rainbow” fundraiser. He won the Battle of the Bands in 2009 and will be releasing an album soon. Keep an eye on this talented up-and-comer!
