GWC hosted their 42nd Annual Chican@/Latin@ College Day on Friday, November 3, 2017. This year’s theme, “In Lak’ech – I Am You, You Are Me!” was well-received by the almost 600 students in attendance, representing 14 local high schools. Anaheim High School history teacher, Ryan Ruelas, was the keynote speaker for the day. Ruelas serves as this year’s president of the Anaheim City School District Board and also founded Anaheim BROS, a student-run organization that focuses on increasing the amount of Chicano/Latino male students at the university level. The high school students attended different workshops throughout the day including financial aid info, CTE programs, learning about transferring into the UC and Cal State University systems, and the Puente Project. Resource booths were set up in the Central Quad and lunch was provided.
