On January 27, 2011 Ron Lowenberg, Dean and Director of the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center, received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce at the HBCOC Annual Dinner.
To be considered for this honor, an individual needs to meet the following criteria:
- Lives or works in Huntington Beach
- Has performed an extraordinary act or service in the community
- Includes acts of heroism, humanitarianism, charity or other outstanding service
- The service performed must be voluntary, not paid as work
- Meritorious service must be within the last year or over a span of years

Ron Lowenberg has been the Dean and Director of the Criminal Justice Training Center at Golden West College since 2003, following a distinguished 36-year law enforcement career. Ron served as the Police Chief in Huntington Beach for 13 years and presently serves as one of 14 governor-appointed Commissioners for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Ron has elevated the CJTC to a higher level of quality and institutional integrity through his example of leadership and teamwork. His problem solving and administrative talents, and his personal character have made him a great ambassador for GWC on the campus, district, and within the community. Last year, his peers selected him as the Golden West College “Manager of the Year.”
Ron holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from California State University at Long Beach and is a graduate of the POST Command College. In 2009, Ron received the prestigious Benemerenti Medal from Pope Benedict XVI for his dedication to, and demonstrated leadership in the Diocese of Orange.
Ron has also been recognized by the Orange County Human Relations Commission, the Huntington Beach Interfaith Council, the St. Simon and Jude Parish Community, and the Interval House Crisis Shelters, for his extensive volunteer efforts.
