Industry Pros teach “Acting for the Camera” at GWC

On September 19, the Golden West College Theater Arts Department presented Acting for the Camera Master Class and Workshop to a full-house in GWC’s Stage West Theater.

Professional actors, writers, and producers taught camera acting techniques specifically used in television, film, commercial, and internet productions to students and actors appearing on camera during the workshop.

The event was underwritten by the John D. Renley and Coast Community College District Foundation Faculty Scholarship. The scholarship was granted to Martie Ramm, Associate Professor, GWC Theater Arts Department, who coordinated and moderated the workshop. The GWC New Media department provided the technical/video resources for the project.

Industry experts Ron Michaelson, Richard Hatem, and Anne Marie Howard were quick to accept Martie Ramm’s invitation to participate, and the students benefited greatly from the wide variety of their expertise.

Ron Michaelson,  has been a professional actor for over 30 years, with over 500 commercials including Bud Light, Raisin Nut Bran Cereal, Denny’s, and Verizon. He has also been in numerous TV series.

Richard Hatem currently, serves as consulting producer on NBC’s Grimm, and has written numerous screenplays including Under Siege 2: Dark Territory and The Mothman Prophecies. He created the ABC/Touchstone TV series Miracles, ABC TV series The Gates, and wrote and produced episodes of Fox’s Tru Calling and The Inside, USA’s The Dead Zone and CW’s Supernatural.

Anne Marie Howard, is a spokeswoman and host on television and is in talk shows on the web. She has appeared in the NYC off-Broadway productions Summertree with Alec Baldwin and Baseball Wives with Anne Pitoniak. She played Nicole Love on NBC’s Another World and Kimberly Brady on . She has numerous television and feature films credits, and can be seen and heard in hundreds of television & radio commercials.
