GWC Opens new Learning Resource Center

After many delays, the building is ready just in time for fall semester

With finishing touches still being made, staff getting settled in, and signs hung just hours before, the new Learning Resources Center (LRC) opened its doors on the first day of fall semester to eagerly waiting students.

The LRC will serve as a learning center for students, faculty, and staff alike. In this modern space, diverse academic programs and disciplines are converging, sparking a creative, collaborative learning energy.

All GWC students can (and should) take advantage of the services offered. On the first floor is the Tutorial Center, available to all students in the courses for which they are enrolled; the Computer Lab complete with internet access and convenient, low cost printing; a Writing and Reading Center offering many short courses that help students improve their reading and writing skills; and the ACE Computer Lab with high tech hardware and software for disabled students.

Faculty and staff will learn along-side the students in the Staff Development wing of the LRC. Assistance with online instruction and group workshops for staff will be offered. For faculty wishing to create instructional videos, the New Media recording studio is also located in this wing.

The Library is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors and includes a computer lab and 12 group study rooms – all equipped with computers, internet connection, and large flat-screen monitors mounted on the walls.
An added bonus is the Community Room on the 3rd floor, available to community organizations and campus personnel for meetings and events. This ‘room with view’ has windows on three sides and overlooks the beautiful California Native Garden.

Modern, comfortable, and inviting, the students have already found the LRC a great place to be. “The new library is awesome,” “check out the new library,” “have you been in the new LRC? It’s great!” – are some of the comments made by students on GWC’s Facebook.

The LRC is conveniently located just off the Goldenwest Street parking lot. This new, three-story building can’t be missed, so come by and visit us!
