LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Chris Devenski, former Golden West College baseball standout, earned his first career World Series victory Wednesday night in a wild finish that delivered the Houston Astros a 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in 11 innings.

The bottom of the 11th inning wasn’t easy but he battled through a solo home run by Charlie Culberson that brought the game within a run, and then got Yasiel Puig to swing at low changeup to end the game and earn the Astros’ first World Series win in franchise history.
Devenski threw 1-1/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit and striking out one. Game 3 takes place in Houston on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 5:09 (PDT).
He was a shortstop and pitcher during his two years at Golden West, enjoying his best season as a sophomore when he hit .338 with two home runs while collecting an 8-1 record on the mound with 68 strikeouts. He had four homers and knocked in 20 runs as a freshman. Devenski was an All-Orange Empire first-team selection in 2010.
