Golden West College Receives State-of-the-Art Criminal Justice Interactive Simulator

On March 8th Golden West College dedicated the Virtual Interactive Combat Environment Simulator (V.I.C.E.). This is the first law enforcement training institution in the nation to receive this equipment. This interactive shooting simulator enables up to 13 students to work simultaneously on emergency situations that would otherwise be impossible to simulate. The training device was made possible through a $500,000 appropriations grant through the Office of Congressman Rohrabacher.
“The technology is extremely unique because it allows a group to work together on a mission that is constantly evolving,” said Ron Lowenberg, Dean of the Criminal Justice Training Center. “For example, squads can be virtually working through a school shooting scenario and the instructor can add people or other dangers to the situation as it is happening.”
This technology allows for almost limitless training scenarios, as each is unique and spontaneous. While the students are going through the scenarios, the instructor is able to see the situation through the eyes of the participants and from an overhead view, which makes correcting errors easy.
Cutting the caution tape ribbon to the sound of police sirens were Congressman Rohrabacher, Jerry Patterson, President of the Coast Community College Trustees, Wes Bryan, President of Golden West College, Cathy Green, Mayor of Huntington Beach and community members.
