New course has standing room only on the first day of class.
This semester Golden West College Automotive Technology is offering a new hybrid electric vehicle class, further raising its status as an advanced transportation center.
The first day of class had a ‘full-house’, with standing room only. The course attracted current auto technicians, auto tech students, and students in other disciplines such as math, sciences, and green technologies.
“We anticipate a noteworthy semester for this class with special demo vehicles, guest speakers, and excellent training thanks to our new instructor, Marty Supple,” remarked Rex Jaramillo, Auto Tech instructor, and added, “Marty comes to us with a wealth of alternative fuel, electric vehicle, and hybrid vehicle training background and knowledge. We are most fortunate to have him as the lead instructor for this class.”
The course provides a hands-on approach to the world of hybrid electric vehicles. Students will examine existing technologies, conversion processes, testing, assembly, operation, maintenance and safety of hybrid-electric, fuel cell and battery powered electric vehicles.
At this time, the department is researching the feasibility of a Vehicle Alternative Fuels class, and an Energy, Transportation, Power, and the Environment class.
